F.A.Q.

This sounds like i've heard it all before. A community approach to standard software is not known to have been very successful as far as the insurance industry is concerned?

Of cource, the success of the community model depends on the will of the members to play an active part in the community. However, the frame provided supports an active participation: The threshold for getting started and the initial investment required are low, so participation enables great benefits.

How can other vendors or consultants participate? Does Faktor Zehn GmbH play a special role?

Faktor Zehn has no special role in the community. Every vendor „willing and able“ is invited to join the effort, if he acknowledges the community rules.

The membership fee sounds like a hidden licence fee. Am I getting this wrong?

Yes. The membership fee ist just for covering expenses in connection with the community processes, like meetings, infrastructure set-up and maintenance, operation of this website, release system etc.) The fee is much lower than a typical licence fee for insurance application software, be it standard or individual software. Use of the collected fees is transparent and reported to the communit on a regular basis. All costs of development are clearly separated.

I thoroughly tested the software. It's great! Can I use (parts of) it ?

If you want to use it to make money in any way, you must join the community.

I can't wait for the release process to cover my requirements. Is there an "urgent" option?

Special (urgent) requirements can be developed on an individual basis at any time. Should you want to gain the benefits of community maintenance later, you should opt for consulting the component manager concerning architecture and interface design.

How can i protect my individual developments from competitors?

All developments can optionally be declared as proprietary. These developments thereby complement the standard software, all rights remain with the owner’s.
